Medical examination, fingerprinting and photographing

All foreign citizens, who arrived in the Russian Federation after December 29, 2021 and plan to stay more than 90 calendar days in Russia, have to undergo medical examination, fingerprinting and photographing procedures within 90 calendar days from the date of entry into the Russian Federation.

What will happen if a foreign citizen does not undergo the procedures on time?

A foreign citizen’s period of stay in Russia can be to shorten, as well as entry into Russia can be restricted depending on individual cases.

Who do not need to undergo the procedures?

  • Republic of Belarus citizens;
  • Foreign citizens - holders of temporary residence permit for education, temporary residence permit or permanent residence permit;
  • Foreign citizens with dual nationality (citizenship) one of which is Russian;
  • Family members of officials of international organizations, as well as employees of diplomatic and consular offices in Russia;
  • Stateless persons who have received a temporary ID document;
  • Foreign citizens and stateless persons recognized as refugees or granted temporary asylum in Russia.

Below is information for international students with a step-by-step guide on medical examination, fingerprinting and photographing procedures.

The procedures are strictly staged:

Stage 1. Medical examination.

Stage 2. Fingerprinting and photographing (the procedure is available after completing medical examination only).

* If you do not speak Russian ask somebody for help to accompany you to a medical clinic and provide assistance in translating and filling out documents in Russian.

Stage 1. Medical examination

International students can undergo a medical examination at one of the specialized medical clinics authorized to carry out the procedure.

The service is paid and provided for international student funds.

IMPORTANT: a medical examination procedure must be undergone annually throughout the entire period of stay in Russia.

Algorithm for medical examination procedure undergoing:

1. Prepare documents for the procedure:

- Passport and a copy of the passport (the main page with photo);
- Notarized translation of the passport into Russian (the main page with photo) and a copy of the passport notarized translation;
- Visa and its copy (if applicable);
- Migration card and its copy;
- Migration registration and its copy;
- Funds to pay for the service (please clarify the service cost at the selected medical clinic).

2. Choose one of the medical clinics and plan your visit:

- After preparing your documents please contact the selected medical clinic and clarify additional information;
- You must to visit the clinic strictly on an empty stomach as you will need to take a blood test. Before the visit it is not recommended to take drugs that contain psychotropic, narcotic, sleeping pills, analgesics, tranquilizers, bronchodilators, antitussives. If there are medical instructions for taking medications it is recommended to have prescriptions or other medical documents with you (if medical documents are in a foreign language you will need to provide a translation into Russian);
- The procedure for visiting the necessary doctors will be determined by the clinic staff on the day of the visit. Upon completing the procedure doctors will assign you a date for a follow-up visit to receive the documents confirming medical examination undergoing.

3. Revisit the clinic to receive documents:

- On the appointed date and time you must revisit the clinic to receive the documents confirming medical examination undergoing

  • Medical certificate on infectious diseases absence/presence. You can see a sample of the document form here
  • Medical certificate on narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances use. You can see a sample of the document form here
  • Medical certificate on human immunodeficiency virus absence (HIV infection). You can see a sample of the document form here

- It is important to check that your personal data specified in the medical certificates correspond to your personal data in your migration card and study visa. If an error is found you need to inform clinic staff and ask to make changes to your personal data.

4. Inform the university staff (send (or handle) medical documents copies):

- Within 1 day after receiving the documents you need to handle the medical documents copies to the International Cooperation Department (Moscow, Zemlyanoy Val St., 71, room 306) or send scanned copies to international@mgutm.ru, indicating email title "Full name - documents on medical examination".

5. Repeat the medical examination procedure after the documents expire and inform the university staff:

- A medical examination procedure must be undergone annually throughout the entire period of stay in Russia;
- The validity of medical certificates is 1 year from the date of issue. It is necessary to check the expiration dates of the documents and undergo medical examination procedure again within 30 days after the expiration date. Use the instructions above to undergo the procedure;
- Within 1 day after receiving the documents you need to handle the medical documents copies to the International Cooperation Department (Moscow, Zemlyanoy Val St., 71, room 306) or send scanned copies to international@mgutm.ru, indicating email title "Full name - documents on repeated medical examination".

Stage 2. Fingerprinting and photographing

Fingerprinting and photographing procedure must be completed only once regardless number of enters and leaves Russia.

To take your time the university recommends you to undergo fingerprinting and photographing procedure at the "Migration Center" representative office (address: Moscow, Bakhrushina St., 18, building 1 (paid service)).

Algorithm for fingerprinting and photographing procedure undergoing:

1. Prepare requested documents:

- Passport and a copy of the passport (the main page with photo);
- Notarized translation of the passport into Russian (the main page with photo) and a copy of the passport notarized translation;
- Visa and its copy (if applicable);
- Migration card and its copy;
- Migration registration and its copy;
- Medical certificates and its copies (after medical examination procedure completing);
- A valid student ID card or a certificate confirming the status of a student at the university (to get a discount when undergoing a paid procedure at the "Migration Center" representative office);
- Cash to pay for the service.

2. Visit "Migration Center" representative office:

- During working hours (according to the schedule) visit the office with prepared documents and undergo fingerprinting and photographing procedure;
- On the next working day or on the day of the procedure receive a document confirming fingerprinting and photographing procedure completing. You can see a sample of the document form here

3. Inform the university staff (send (or handle) a document’s copy):

- Within 1 day after receiving the document you need to handle its copy to the International Cooperation Department (Moscow, Zemlyanoy Val St., 71, room 306) or send the scanned copy to international@mgutm.ru, indicating email title "Full name - document on fingerprinting and photographing".
