Entering Russia

Border crossing procedure

When passing through border control you must provide your passport, QR code from the RuID application (only for foreign citizens with a visa-free entry regime - more detailed information is available here and here), and a migration card. The migration card is issued on the plane, train or bus, or at border crossing checkpoint.

*If entry is in transit (with a transfer) through the Republic of Belarus you must obtain a migration card on the territory of the Republic of Belarus BEFORE ENTERING Russia. The migration card must be requested from the border control officer at checkpoint of the Republic of Belarus. Citizens of the Republic of Belarus do not need a migration card.

It is important to check the correctness of the data when filling out a migration card, including indicating the correct purpose of the visit "EDUCATION"! If an error is found in the document you must contact a checkpoint officer to correct the error.

If an error in the migration card is found after leaving the border crossing point you have to leave Russia and re-enter.

Completing biometric registration upon arrival

Within 10 days of entry a foreign citizen needs to complete the biometric data registration in the Unified Biometric System:

  • visit a bank office (with a passport);
  • take a photo and record your voice;
  • wait for biometric registration to be completed.
